Day 19 Thursday August 24
Jesus Christ is perfect theology.
JESUS IS THE visible image of the invisible God (see Col. 1:15). He came to show the world what the Father was like. Who better to represent God than God Himself? He came in the form of Jesus to accomplish the work of eternal salvation, but also to show humankind the loving Father that redemption would introduce them to. During Jesus’ final moments on earth, He explains to the disciples “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him and have seen Him” (John 14:7). This apparently went over Philip’s head because he said to Jesus, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us” (John 14:8). Philip basically responded by asking Jesus to do what He had already been doing throughout His life and ministry. Jesus said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works” (John 14:9-10 NASB). Everything that Jesus said and did was intentional. He was on mission to reveal the Father. We should not be expecting a different revelation of Who God is other than what has been entrusted to us in the Person of Jesus. He is truly perfect theology.
DAILY SCRIPTURE READING: COLOSSIANS 1:15
Jesus reveals exactly Who You are, Father. He is the visible image of You— the invisible God. He has made it possible for me to know Who You are and understand what You are like. He reveals Your will. He shows me how You think. Lord, cause my hurt to burn afresh to study the life and ministry of Jesus. There is no greater revelation of Who You are than Your glorious Son.
WHAT FATHER IS SAYING TO ME TODAY?
