Day 1—January 6, 2019

We were designed to rule like God rules—in generosity and kindness, not self-serving, but always for the higher good of others.

WHAT IS OUR task as ambassadors of Jesus? Reconciliation. We are servants of reconciliation, empowered by the Holy Spirit to bring the people, systems, and kingdoms of this world into a transformative encounter with King Jesus. This does not happen through overthrow or takeover—it is released through servanthood. Even though the first disciples were looking for military victory, Jesus had to clearly define the expression of their commission. Through love and service, a different form of conquest would be taking place. Darkness would be driven out of cities. Disease would be healed. Torment would be relieved. Families would be restored. This is how the kingdoms of this world will become the kingdoms of the Lord Jesus Christ. Until the last day comes, this is God’s mission for us—to overthrow darkness through loving people, serving our cities, and carrying the Presence of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit empowers us to serve, as our Savior was the ultimate servant.

Daily Scripture reading: 2 COR. 5:17-21. JOHN 13:1-17

PRAYER Jesus, You are the ultimate example of a servant leader. As I go out with power to reconcile Your lost sons and daughters to You, give me an attitude of a humble servant. Help me to love and serve selflessly like You showed us when You washed Your disciples’ feet.

What is the Father saying to you today?
